Lame Challenge for Killin' Babies

Andrea Grimes, reporter for RH Reality Check, claims she started the #TacoOrBeerChallenge last week as a Twitter joke. Perhaps, but this Unicorn believes the more likely scenario was that she had just eaten a bag of tacos and downed a six-pack while watching ALS Bucket Challenge videos. Buzzed and full on tacos, she thought it would be a great idea to copycat an innovative fundraising idea and challenge Twitter to eat a taco or drink a beer and then donate to Planned Parenthood or any other local abortion rights' charity.

Grimes even created a Tumbler page where people could share photos, videos, and donate because killing babies is just as important as finding a cure for Lou Gehrig's Disease. [insert sigh and eyeroll here] Grimes also proves she is a class act on the "Hold Up, So How Does This Work" page where her description of the challenge speaks volumes:

You find yourself a fucking taco, or a fucking beer, or a fucking taco and a beer, then you eat the fucking taco or drink the fucking beer or eat and drink both the fucking taco and the beer, and then you donate some money to an abortion fund. You fucking film yourself doing this shit and then you send us the fucking video and we put it on the fucking internet.

In promoting the challenge on RH Reality Check, Grimes claims

 . . . abortion stigma is real, I know it can be hard to make that first abortion fund donation. It’s one thing to support abortion in theory, and a whole other thing to actually help pay for someone else’s—a total stranger’s, most likely—abortion. There’s a strong cultural narrative that tells us people who get abortions are bad, irresponsible, or cruel. That they are undeserving of care and understanding. That they are confused or heartless.

That narrative fucking sucks. Abortion is common. Abortion is normal. And abortion is safest when it is legal and accessible—something abortion funds help to ensure in an increasingly hostile political climate. There’s nothing shameful about having an abortion, and nothing shameful about funding abortion. It’s so not-shameful, in fact, that you can be the kind of regular ol’ human being who eats a taco or drinks a beer and funds abortion.

 But what Unicorns know, and what Grimes and similar-minded feminists fail to understand, is that for most pro-lifers, it's the idea of abortion - not the person committing it - that provokes outrage. The notion that abortion is normal and there simply isn't a better solution when an unexpected pregnancy occurs actually is heartbreaking for someone who believes life is precious. Isn't it ironic that pro-choice these days only offers one? Abortion. 

As far as Ms. Grimes challenge goes, Unicorns rate it as lazy. Any "challenge" should involve some skill or require a bit of sacrifice. #UnicornsUnite.
